How to apply the putty properly

Frequently asked questions from our customers are ‘How do i apply the putty?’ or ‘Will there be enough putty for my damage?’. If your bath has a hole or crack that has fully penetrated the surface and is leaking the putty kit is the right kit for you. If you have a small damage such as a chip or a scratch you can purchase one of our other kits here.  Now i will tell you how to correctly apply the putty according to your damage!

A hole at the bottom of your bath:

The amount of putty that we supply will successfully fill a hole that is 2.5cm diameter and with a depth of 0.3cm.
Ideally you should apply the putty to the underside of your bath to make sure an effective repair has been achieved.

  1. Work the putty for a few minutes until it is completely white.
  2. Mould the putty into the correct shape of the hole, making sure it is at least 0.5cm proud of the edge of the hole.
  3. Firmly press down the putty around the hole making sure it is secure and covers all of the area.
  4. Try to ensure a 0.2cm gap between the putty and the top of the hole surface.
Once this has been done proceed with the rest of the repair as per the instructions.

A crack at the bottom of your bath:

The coverage of the putty we provide for a crack equates to 5cm in length, 1.5cm width and 0.3cm depth.
Ideally again you should apply the putty to the underside of your bath and follow the instructions provided above. However, if you have a hairline crack, which is more tricky, here is an alternative way to do a repair.

  1. Get a screwdriver or chisel and gently create a reservoir around the crack. This will enable you to see into the crack more.
  2. Take a third of the putty, or more if required, and work it until it is completely white.
  3. Grab a paperclip or a similar object and use this to push the putty into the crack, ensuring that all of the area has been covered by the putty.
  4. Try to ensure a 0.2cm gap between the putty and the top of the crack.
Once this has been done proceed with the rest of the repair as per the instructions.

If you think you need an extra piece of putty this can be purchased via telephone for £3.99.
