Improve your bathroom lighting with these 3 tips

Bathroom lighting is essential to making your bathrooms appearance look stylish and inviting, especially to guests when they are visiting your home. The right bathroom lighting can sway your bathroom to either being a dump, where you simply spend as little time as possible, or a luxurious sanctuary spa where you want to unwind and relax. Consider these 3 tips to make your lighting improve.

  1. Wattage for bathroom lighting
The brightness of your bathroom is measured in watts. There are a few factors that can impact how bright you want the lights to be in your bathroom. 75-100 watts are best for large bathrooms and in bathrooms where people with sight difficulties use as this will make it safer for them. For smaller bathrooms and dressing rooms 45-60 watts should be plenty. Alternatively, you could add a dimmer switch to your lighting so in the morning you can put it on full when applying make up or shaving and then have it slightly dimmer when relaxing in the evening.
  2. Temperature of lighting
The lighting in your bathroom is normally far from how brilliant the light is in a dressing room in a clothes shop, that is why your clothes and make up may look so different to what you first thought. ‘Plain’ white light can have multiple shades, colours and temperatures depending on the decor of your bathroom. Experts suggest that using a warm white light gives the best glow in a bathroom which is around 2000-3000 kelvins.
  3. Number of lights
When deciding how many lights you should have in your bathroom you need to consider size, ceiling height and where shadows may appear. There are also different types of bathroom lighting such as task lights, perfect for putting around your vanity unit and accent lights, perfect for illuminating specific features.
